How to turn a webinar into clips

This is a process you can run today with any stack. Where we name tools, treat them as candidates — not proven winners — until [NEEDS LIVE TEST] sections are filled.
Goal
From one 45–60 minute webinar or live lesson, produce 5–10 short clips that each teach one idea, work with captions on, and fit vertical feeds (and optionally horizontal for YouTube / course portals).
Step 1 — Protect the source
- Export the highest-quality master you own (not a compressed Zoom cloud preview if you can avoid it).
- Keep a silent backup; never edit only the original.
- Note timestamps of “money moments” while the webinar is fresh (stories, demos, objections answered).
Step 2 — Decide clip types before you open AI
- Hook + tip (15–45s): one promise, one tip, end screen
- Demo bite (30–60s): screen share or whiteboard moment
- FAQ / objection (30–90s): answers a comment you always get
- Story (45–90s): narrative that still stands alone
Write a one-line title for each clip before cutting. AI suggestions are optional; your outline is mandatory.
Step 3 — Choose a tool path
| Your situation | Start here (candidates) | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Long file → auto clip ideas | Opus Clip, Vizard | [NEEDS LIVE TEST] |
| Heavy transcript edits first | Descript | [NEEDS LIVE TEST] |
| Recorded in Riverside already | Riverside Magic Clips | [NEEDS LIVE TEST] |
| Captions / short-form polish | Submagic | [NEEDS LIVE TEST] |

Step 4 — Run the same five tasks every time
Matches our public testing method so you can compare tools fairly:
- Produce 5 short clips that make sense out of context
- Add captions; fix names and jargon
- Remove filler without cutting the teaching point
- Export vertical and horizontal
- Log minutes to first publishable clip and any plan limits you hit
[NEEDS LIVE TEST] — LessonBench will publish dated screenshots of this workflow on our sample webinar. Until then, run the five tasks on your file and keep the spreadsheet yourself.
Step 5 — Caption and compliance pass
- Read every caption aloud once; AI misspellings on product names are common.
- Add on-screen context if the clip assumes the full webinar.
- If the webinar promoted a paid offer, keep claims accurate; Canadian advertising rules still apply to short clips.
- Disclose when a clip is an ad or includes an affiliate offer.
Step 6 — Publish cadence
- Batch 5 clips in one sitting from one webinar.
- Schedule across a week rather than dumping all five in a day.
- Reuse the best clip as a course email / community post with a link back to the full lesson.
What we still owe you
- Timed results for each candidate tool on one owned sample webinar
- Caption error notes and export-limit screenshots with dates
- A short “default stack” recommendation once tests clear
