Synthesia vs HeyGen

Avatar tools help when you need a talking-head lesson without filming every module. They are a different category from clip makers (Opus, Vizard, etc.). This page compares how to evaluate Synthesia and HeyGen for course creators — not how they scored on our sample file yet.
Who this comparison is for
- Coaches and course creators building modular lessons from a script
- Teams that need consistent presenters across many modules
- Anyone comparing “film yourself” vs “avatar + B-roll / slides”
If your main job is cutting an existing webinar into Shorts, start with AI clip makers instead.

Evaluation criteria we’ll use
- Same script. One 3–5 minute teaching script (owned by us) rendered in both tools.
- Same slide/B-roll intent. Can we illustrate one concept without leaving the tool?
- Lip-sync / delivery notes. Subjective but dated, with screenshots — not star ratings until we have a rubric.
- Export & brand. Resolution, captions if offered, watermark rules on the plan tested.
- Time to first usable module. Clock starts at blank project, ends at downloadable MP4.
[NEEDS LIVE TEST] — Sample script file and rights checklist still to be finalized on the method page.

Decision guide before our results
- Lean Synthesia first if your content looks like corporate/training modules and you want a structured avatar studio. Confirm current plans yourself.
- Lean HeyGen first if you are exploring more generative / social-adjacent avatar workflows. Read their affiliate and product terms carefully — blog SEO rules can differ by program track.
- Film yourself if authenticity of you on camera is the product; avatars won’t fix a weak outline.
Verdict
[NEEDS LIVE TEST] — No pick until the scorecard is filled. Commissions never decide the order.
